Starring Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, and Karisma Kapoor, the film is remembered for its hilarious dialogues and unforgettable performances. But not many know that off-screen, tensions between the two leading ladies created quite a stir on the film’s set.
What Sparked the Raveena-Karisma Cold War?
During the early 90s, Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor were both rising stars in Bollywood. As two ambitious young actresses, comparisons were inevitable. However, their rivalry wasn’t just professional. According to several reports at the time, both actresses were rumored to have been linked to actor Ajay Devgn, leading to personal tensions.
Raveena Tandon was reportedly dating Ajay Devgn, but rumors soon linked him with Karisma Kapoor, creating further rifts. Raveena later accused Devgn of spreading false rumors, which worsened the situation.
The rivalry spilled onto the sets of Andaz Apna Apna, where, according to Raveena herself, the two actresses wouldn’t even look at each other during shoots. She once joked that they acted using mirrors so they wouldn’t have to face one another directly.
How Director Rajkumar Santoshi Resolved the Feud
Fed up with the on-set tension, director Rajkumar Santoshi reportedly came up with a creative solution. During the filming of a scene, he tied both actresses to a pole and left them alone in a room, hoping they’d sort out their differences. Surprisingly, the plan worked. The two eventually began communicating, enough to finish the film without further drama.
Raveena later admitted in interviews that their feud was childish. “We were kids. We had silly fights, didn’t talk, and then didn’t know how to make up,” she said.
Where Do They Stand Today?
Decades later, it seems that all is well between the two actresses. They have occasionally been spotted exchanging pleasantries at industry events, leaving the past behind them.
Despite their off-screen rivalry, Andaz Apna Apna became a timeless classic, proving that personal differences couldn’t dull its comedic brilliance.
