Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor Khan recently turned heads at a high-profile Bulgari event, donning an exquisite custom navy gown by Hannah Khiangte, a celebrated designer from Mizoram, marking a beautiful fusion of Indian heritage and contemporary fashion.
The ensemble, meticulously crafted by écrê Mizo artisans, draws inspiration from the traditional puan—a handwoven textile rich in cultural significance, known for symbolizing identity, celebration, and womanhood in Mizoram. This couture masterpiece reinterprets it through a dramatic off-shoulder silhouette with sharp architectural lines, reflecting ‘80s punk-era boldness while staying rooted in tradition.
The gown features a corseted bodice with vertical boning and exquisite fabric-covered buttons, cinching the waist into a sculptural design. A distinctive cream fringe band along the neckline echoes the handcrafted edges of the puan fabric. The outfit transitions into an ankle-length front with a fluid train, blending drama and elegance in perfect harmony.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, the outfit was accessorized with sleek Christian Louboutin heels and shimmering Bulgari jewelry, allowing the heritage-inspired design to take center stage. Kareena’s makeup was kept fresh and radiant—softly defined eyes, glowing skin, and a nude lip—while her hair cascaded in soft waves, embodying timeless Hollywood glamour.

Since launching her label in 2013, Hannah Khiangte has worked closely with Mizo women artisans to preserve and elevate the art of puan weaving.
