La Galerie Dior and Azzedine Alaïa Foundation Unite for Historic Double Exhibition in Paris
In a landmark partnership, La Galerie Dior, the exhibition space at Dior’s historic Paris flagship, is collaborating with the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation for the first time to stage a double exhibition that shines a light on Alaïa’s secret treasure trove of vintage Dior.
The late Azzedine Alaïa, known as the “couturier’s couturier,” quietly amassed an extraordinary archive of around 600 Dior creations over his lifetime. The majority were designed by Christian Dior himself, alongside pieces from his illustrious successors: Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, and John Galliano.
Now, for the very first time, more than 100 of these garments will be unveiled at La Galerie Dior in an exhibition running from November 20, 2025, to May 3, 2026.
🎨 A Dual Showcase of Fashion Heritage
From December 1, 2025, to May 3, 2026, the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation will present a parallel exhibition. This show will feature 30 Dior designs from Alaïa’s personal collection displayed alongside 30 of Alaïa’s own creations, illustrating the dialogue between Dior’s legacy and Alaïa’s visionary approach.
Curated by Olivier Saillard, director of the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation, with Gaël Mamine, the exhibitions promise a rich exploration of couture history and artistic influence.
✨ Alaïa’s Reverence for Dior
Alaïa’s connection to Dior began in 1956, when he briefly worked in the maison’s demanding workshops on Avenue Montaigne. This experience left an indelible mark on him.
As curator Olivier Saillard explained:
“Christian Dior’s models testify to the relentless quest that Azzedine Alaïa had unwaveringly set his heart upon. In search of the mysteries of dresses and the delicate structures that make vaporous petticoats ‘stand up,’ he skillfully brought together the objects of his adolescent dreams.”
🏛️ A Rare Glimpse into a Hidden Archive
Alaïa’s vast collection remained a well-kept secret during his lifetime, only receiving its first major showing in 2023 at the Palais Galliera, Paris’s fashion museum. This new double exhibition represents not only an unveiling of archival treasures but also a symbolic meeting of two great couture legacies: Dior and Alaïa.
Together, the exhibitions celebrate the enduring dialogue between past and present, master and admirer, and reaffirm Paris as the global capital of haute couture heritage.
