Bollywood star Kajol Devgan recently unveiled a regal look. She showcased a gilded sari designed by celebrated couturier Manish Malhotra.

Their collaboration spans more than three decades. This latest creation feels both timeless and modern. It highlights legacy, craftsmanship, and bold glamour.

    Metallics Over Pastels

Malhotra crafted the sari as a half-and-half masterpiece. The pallu glows in golden handwoven tissue. The body features rich brocade.

These fabrics contrast in weight and texture. Yet, they blend seamlessly into one design. The tissue gleams with a liquid shimmer. In contrast, the brocade adds depth and ornate richness.

Malhotra enhanced the look with a vintage zardozi border. The detail shows both strength and delicacy. He also added gota patti and kiran. These embellishments give the sari old-world charm and rare craftsmanship.

    The Blouse and Styling

The blouse completes the masterpiece. Malhotra designed it as a halterneck with a high collar. He adorned it with uncut jewellery pieces.

The blouse works as both apparel and ornament. It merges fashion with heirloom artistry. It blurs the line between clothing and adornment.

Stylist Aastha Sharma explained the vision. She described it as “old-world glamour, reimagined with a clean, modern perspective.”

The styling follows this principle. Sharma kept jewellery minimal. She chose soft, subtle hair and makeup. She avoided a necklace to maintain focus on the neckline.

Instead, Kajol wore a stack of kadas from Karishma Joolry. These bangles added elegance without overpowering the sari.

    Legacy, Heritage and Modernity

The sari also honours India’s rich crafts. It celebrates tissue, brocade, zardozi, gota patti, and kiran detailing.

At the same time, it brings these traditions into modern fashion. The gold tissue pallu feels timeless. The brocade base conveys heritage. The jewellery-like blouse adds innovation.

Together, they create a look that feels both rooted and forward-thinking. The design avoids nostalgia while embracing evolution.
