Modern Indian Bridalwear Meets High Fashion in Ritika Mirchandani’s The Third Path

National / Fashion News – Designer Ritika Mirchandani has unveiled her latest couture collection, The Third Path, a striking dialogue between India’s centuries-old crafts and razor-sharp modern silhouettes. With pieces that balance softness and strength, the edit offers both avant-garde bridalwear and versatile contemporary couture.

    A Collection About Contradictions

At the heart of The Third Path is the idea of coexistence. “I realised there’s actually a third option—you don’t have to choose between tradition and modernity—there is space for both,” shares Ritika. Instead of blending elements into a comfortable fusion, the collection deliberately stages a clash between heritage crafts like zari, aari, kashida, pita, and kasab, and contemporary, architectural silhouettes.

The result? Belted jackets paired with lehenga-shararas, pre-pleated shimmer saris, and embroidered corsets—all combining structure with fluidity, heritage with edge.

    Craft at the Core

Mirchandani gives India’s legacy techniques bold new stages:

    • Bugle work forms geometric patterns inspired by Persian architecture.

    • Zari and kasab highlight garments with metallic shimmer.

    • Kashida and aari are placed on unexpected surfaces like tailored jackets.

Respect for craft is central. “I’m not trying to update these crafts. I’m simply giving them new stages to perform and be part of new conversations,” she explains.

    Bridal Edit with an Edge

The bridal line within The Third Path reflects modern brides who balance complexity—women who move effortlessly between family traditions and contemporary aspirations. The silhouettes are regal yet wearable, emphasising ease with pre-pleated saris and boldness with embroidered corsets.

“The belted jacket brings structure and authority, while the lehenga-sharara grounds it in tradition,” Ritika notes. “It’s a dialogue between two strong voices—heritage and modernity.”
