Tucked away in the winding lanes of Chaura Rasta in Jaipur’s walled city lies Padmaa Jaipur—a restored 18th-century haveli that’s less a hotel and more a living heritage home. Named after the revered family matriarch, Shrimati Padmaa Devi Shah, this boutique retreat blends seven generations of legacy with understated luxury and intimate design.
A Journey into Legacy
Originally built in the 1730s by Shri Seva Ram Ji—under the royal aegis of Sawai Jai Singh II—the haveli started as a jewellery “gaddi” before evolving into a family sanctuary spanning generations. Today, the Sah family, also known as the custodians of Umrao Jewels, have transformed it into a graceful, all-suite heritage hotel with 15 uniquely styled retreats.
Crafting Heritage with Care
Restoration was handled with meticulous attention by architect Gagan Sharma (heritage conservation specialist) and designer Vaishnavi Bazaz of Studio Navée. Key historical features—the carved wooden entrance, jharokhas, and the courtyard’s weathered stonework—were preserved to maintain authenticity. These weathered details aren’t erased, but embraced.
Studio Navée’s interiors pair heirloom furniture, hand-block printed fabrics, and gentle pastel tones—creating a sensorial atmosphere that feels like memory embodied.
Suites with Stories
Each of the 15 suites resonates with personal history and design nuance. In one heritage room, guests may find a hand-carved swing, stained glass panels, and traditional storage drawers (aalas) reminiscent of family heirlooms. Only modern amenity? A discreet Nespresso machine.
Spaces That Sense, Not Impress
The central courtyard is framed by rustic stonework, where afternoon light dances softly. There’s an open-air restaurant serving global dishes alongside cherished Rajasthani recipes—often with a story behind each.
Sip a drink at one of two bars: one nestled in the courtyard’s tranquility, the other perched on the terrace with sweeping views of Jaipur’s skyline at dusk.
The rooftop plunge pool and spa offer a private sanctuary to unwind, bathed in warm sunlight or moonlit serenity.
A poetic feature is Chandni—a small moonlit alcove on the second floor, perfect for reflective evenings or intimate conversations under the stars.
Warmth over Luxury
At Padmaa, hospitality is heartfelt. As Jaiveer Singh Rathore, Head of Operations, puts it: “We want every guest to feel the comfort of staying at a loved one’s home rather than a hotel.” Personal requests are addressed promptly, heritage walks are bespoke, and craft workshops connect guests to Jaipur’s living culture.
