Last night, Jennifer Lopez made a stunning appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as part of her promotional tour for her new musical drama Kiss of the Spider Woman.
True to her flair for dramatic style, she wore a sequined Elie Saab gown that resembled a glittering gold mesh — subtly evoking the spider-web imagery central to her latest film. Harper’s BAZAAR+1
The Dress: Webbed Glamour Meets Elegance
The gown featured a sheer, boho-inspired silhouette, layered with a matching shawl top that included scalloped lace edging. Beneath it, a sheer mermaid skirt swept the floor over champagne platform sandals.
Though bold and sheer, Lopez and her styling team added a lace slip under the sequined mesh to lend modesty and structure to the look.
Method Dressing: Fashion That Reflects the Role
Lopez has leaned into what fashion observers call method dressing during the press run for Kiss of the Spider Woman, selecting costumes that echo her character’s thematic elements.
Earlier, she sported a Valdrin Sahiti gown bejeweled with 3D crystal webs at the film’s Sundance premiere — a direct nod to the spider motif.
At other promotional events, she also wore designs imbued with arachnid references, such as sculptural detailing reminiscent of spider fangs in a Harris Reed piece.
Behind the Glamour: The Film & Costume Challenge
Kiss of the Spider Woman is directed by Bill Condon, adapted from the classic musical and novel by Manuel Puig. Lopez portrays the dual roles of Ingrid Luna and Aurora, a glamorous silver-screen persona who exists in the fantasies of another character.
Costume designer Colleen Atwood faced technical challenges, having created elaborate stage costumes that demand movement — including a 50-pound gold beaded dress Lopez acknowledged was a “nightmare” to dance in.
Lopez confessed that executing choreography while bearing such weight was difficult, but praised the craftsmanship that made the costumes integral to her artistic expression
