Shilpa Shetty Swaps Her Signature Saris for an Embroidered Peplum Kedia Jacket

Known for her love of saris—often belted, precisely pleated, and mostly in georgette—Shilpa Shetty has built a reputation for giving the six-yard staple a contemporary spin. But for her latest outing, the actor chose to step away from her signature silhouette in favour of something less expected, yet equally stylish.

Her look featured a white peplum kedia jacket and cowl pants set by Payal Pratap, crafted in breathable malkha cotton. The jacket stood out with its band collar and intricate hand embroidery, featuring multicoloured floral patchwork and sequins that echoed the craft of traditional kedia wear. The peplum hemline, designed with pleated side panels that dipped lower at the sides, added a sense of movement and dimensionality. Complementing the jacket were airy, dhoti-inspired cowl pants with pleats and rounded legs that tapered neatly at the ankles.

Shetty finished the ensemble with retro striped Carrano pumps, a sharp styling choice that balanced the fluidity of the outfit. Her accessories were kept impactful but minimal: an oxidised multi-stone jhumka with an attached ear cuff, and a diamond-studded statement ring.

Her beauty look was understated yet refined. With bronzed lids, a precise flick of eyeliner, softly defined cheekbones and a nude lip, the makeup lent quiet polish. A sleek side-parted bun tied the look together, allowing the jewellery and embroidery to take centre stage.

What makes this choice particularly interesting is how it ties into a larger fashion movement. Embroidered jackets are having a moment across Indian couture. From Falguni Shane Peacock’s elongated, embroidered renditions, to Shantnu & Nikhil’s military-inspired takes, and Anamika Khanna’s structured sari-blazer hybrids, the jacket has evolved into a statement piece that works across occasions. It requires little to no layering, doesn’t rely on heavy jewellery or dupattas, and holds its own as a standalone style statement.

With this look, Shilpa Shetty once again proves her versatility, reaffirming that her style is never static, always experimental, and forever rooted in modern Indian fashion.
