Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to pushing boundaries—and at the Met Gala 2025, he proved once again why he’s as much a fashion icon as he is a racing legend. As one of the evening’s co-chairs, Hamilton delivered a standout look that was not only sartorially striking but also deeply symbolic.
**The theme of the night—‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’—**celebrated the evolution of Black sartorial identity, from dandyism to contemporary tailoring. Hamilton embodied the brief with a custom look by acclaimed British designer Grace Wales Bonner, known for blending Afro-Atlantic traditions with sharp, modern craftsmanship.
His ensemble featured a cream cropped silk tailcoat paired with high-waisted tuxedo-stripe trousers, striking the perfect balance between elegance and symbolism. But it was the details that made the look unforgettable: a sash embroidered with cowrie shells and mother-of-pearl buttons, a matching beret, garnet-studded ear cuffs, and baobab tree brooches.
Each accessory carried rich cultural meaning. The cowrie shells symbolised wealth and spiritual protection in African heritage. The baobab tree—known as the “tree of life”—represented resilience and community. His look also nodded to icons like Cab Calloway, James Baldwin, André Leon Talley, and to the artistry of Barkley L. Hendricks’ white-on-white portraits, weaving history, fashion, and identity into one powerful visual statement.
Hamilton elevated the outfit with vintage 1980s jewels by New York jeweller Briony Raymond, including a cluster of diamond earrings, a chunky citrine ring, and a gold-and-onyx brooch—marrying regal elegance with ancestral homage.
