Milan, Italy — The fashion world gathered in reverence and celebration as Giorgio Armani’s final collection was unveiled at Milan Fashion Week. What was meant to be a milestone 50th anniversary showcase of the Armani fashion house transformed into an emotional tribute to the legendary designer, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 91.

The runway show, held at the Pinacoteca di Brera, one of Milan’s most prestigious art galleries, carried a deeply symbolic atmosphere. Paper lanterns lit the courtyard, echoing the serene tributes at Armani’s chapel of rest earlier this month. Models walked beneath the historic portico, draped in the designer’s signature tailoring and evening glamour.

Hollywood’s elite turned out to honour Armani. Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, Richard Gere, Samuel L. Jackson, Toni Servillo, Zhang Ziyi, James Norton, and director Spike Lee joined the star-studded audience of 700. Richard Gere’s presence was especially poignant, as his iconic Armani suit from American Gigolo—a look that helped cement Armani’s fame—was displayed as part of the adjoining anniversary exhibition. His on-screen partner Lauren Hutton was also in attendance.

The collection itself drew inspiration from two of Armani’s most personal places: Milan, where he lived opposite the Pinacoteca, and Pantelleria, the volcanic Italian island where he vacationed. The pieces blended classic suits, neutral-toned gowns, and oceanic greens, blues, and purples, evoking the island’s winds, earth, and sea. The final piece—a deep-blue shimmering gown featuring Armani’s portrait—earned a standing ovation.

The evening ended with a guided tour of the exhibition, where Armani’s 120 most iconic creations were displayed alongside Italian art masterpieces. Guests, dressed in formal eveningwear, were gifted white T-shirts bearing Armani’s likeness, making the tribute deeply personal.

The show concluded with a bow from Silvana Armani, the designer’s niece, and his long-time collaborator Leo Dell’Orco, both visibly moved. The brand later released a statement calling the collection “a testament to style and the end of a cycle, so that new ones can begin.”

Though absent from some recent shows due to health reasons, Armani had maintained close contact with his team until the very end. His will, revealed earlier this month, expressed his wish for the company to be sold—either to a major fashion group or through a public listing.

This breathtaking showcase not only marked the end of Milan Fashion Week but also the closing chapter of an era defined by Armani’s vision: one of elegance, restraint, and timeless sophistication.
