Design duo Gauri & Nainika brought their signature romanticism to the runway at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI, unveiling a captivating Spring–Summer 2026 collection in collaboration with Mothercare. Known for their couture-inspired silhouettes and artistic flair, the designers created a line that beautifully bridges generations — celebrating the enchantment of childhood through their distinctive lens of sophistication and femininity.

This season’s collection marked a significant moment for both brands. Gauri & Nainika, celebrated for their sculptural evening wear and painterly prints, ventured into children’s couture, while Mothercare, a global name in kidswear, entered the world of designer fashion with a touch of timeless artistry.

Inspiration: The Poetry of Painted Canvases

The collection drew its inspiration from the romance of art and the expressive beauty of oil paintings. The designers referenced painted canvases, moody still lifes, dark roses, and light-filled florals, weaving them into a visual story that celebrated both innocence and sophistication.

The palette and prints, reminiscent of Renoir’s impressionist tones, lent the collection an old-world charm. Therefore painterly florals added texture and depth, while still retaining a modern ease that ensures wearability. Finally designers achieved a seamless dialogue between timeless beauty and contemporary sensibility, staying true to their aesthetic of “modern romance.”

    Craftsmanship: Miniature Couture with Heart

Gauri & Nainika’s meticulous craftsmanship took center stage in this collaboration. Thus children’s wear line mirrored the refinement of their womenswear, introducing miniature versions of their most celebrated silhouettes.

Crafted from silk organza, chiffon, tulle, and silk mikado, the collection featured:

    • Full skirts and delicate ruffles, bringing fairy-tale volume to every ensemble

    • Bows, lace, and velvet accents, echoing vintage femininity

    • Classic polka dots, offering a playful yet graphic contrast to the romantic florals

Each piece balanced drama with lightness, ensuring the designs felt luxurious yet age-appropriate — embodying both fantasy and comfort.
