On Day 3 of FDCI × Lakmé Fashion Week 2025, designer Samant Chauhan presented his latest couture collection titled “First Breath” — a masterful blend of structural precision and artisanal opulence.
Light, Shadow & Silks in Dialogue
“First Breath” drew attention for its play with light and shadow. The silhouettes were sharply tailored, with elongated lines, cinched waists, and dramatic cuts. Silks — chosen for their fluid drape and sheen — formed the foundation.
Chauhan incorporated Swarovski crystals to lend a subtle shimmer to the garments. These embellishments used sparingly, enhancing surface textures and embroidery without overwhelming the fabrics.
Couture Construction With Heritage Roots
While the collection embraced luxury, it remained deeply rooted in craft traditions. The embroidery felt delicate and artisanal, with each motif maintaining a fragile elegance even amidst bold shapes.
Chauhan’s defining strength — fusing indigenous textiles with couture sensibility — was evident.
Why “First Breath” Marks a Defining Moment
This collection reaffirmed Chauhan’s place in India’s luxury fashion landscape. By harmonizing heritage craftsmanship with visionary design, he showed how Indian couture can be both timeless and pioneering.
The strategic restraint in sparkle and the clarity of form made the collection feel refined yet emotionally resonant. It wasn’t just about showing clothes — it was storytelling at the intersection of tradition and modernity.
