Few fabrics capture the radiance of Indian craftsmanship quite like hand-woven Chanderi tissue — and WeaverStory is proving why. The popular craft-led textile label by Nishant Malhotra, known for preserving and promoting India’s artisanal heritage, has launched its latest festive edit — the Handloom Gold Tissue Collection — a luminous ode to timeless weaving traditions and modern design sensibilities.
Blending silk and zari, the new collection offers a lightweight, fluid texture that glows with an understated yet regal sheen. Drawing inspiration from the grandeur of India’s royal courts and temple rituals, the collection celebrates how handwoven gold tissue “catches, bends, and reflects light to create a living, breathing fabric,” as Nishant describes.
“The Handloom Gold Tissue Collection reimagines classical tissue saris and textiles into modern, wearable art while retaining the tactile opulence of handloom weaving,” he says. “It’s a tribute to our country’s weaving legacy — a celebration of light as luxury.”
A tribute to patt and tissue traditions
The collection pays homage to patt or tissue weaving traditions, where silk or cotton yarns intertwine with metallic zari threads, resulting in a fabric with a molten-gold luminosity once reserved for royalty and ceremonial attire. Nishant explains, “Historically, these fabrics were crafted for temples and regal occasions. We’ve reinterpreted that rich tradition for today’s woman — blending reverence with relevance.”
Crafted in the heart of Chanderi
Each textile in the collection is handwoven by master artisans in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh — a region globally celebrated for its translucent tissue finish and fine silk-cotton blends. “Our weavers work on pit looms, meticulously interlacing metallic zari with silk or cotton yarns,” Nishant notes. “The result is featherlight yet richly textured — the hallmark of authentic Chanderi.”
Modern heirlooms for every occasion
The eight-piece collection offers versatility and grace, with silhouettes ranging from suits and kaftans to anarkalis and angrakshas, some paired with elegant brocade pants. These pieces expand upon WeaverStory’s existing range of saris, jackets, and blouses, blending heritage craftsmanship with contemporary couture.
Whether worn for a festive gathering, bridal ceremony, or intimate celebration, each ensemble from WeaverStory’s Handloom Gold Tissue Collection captures the enduring dialogue between India’s artisanal past and its modern identity — where light, legacy, and luxury meet in every weave.
