Few women redefine elegance with such consistency as Nita Ambani. Whether she’s attending a grand Diwali soirée or representing India at a global charity event, her sartorial choices always tell a story — one that intertwines heritage, craftsmanship, and timeless sophistication.

At Britain’s Pink Ball event, Nita Ambani once again turned heads in a look that was nothing short of regal. Draped in a pure zari Kanjivaram saree by Swadesh, the philanthropist and style icon embodied the splendour of Indian textile tradition, styled impeccably by Manish Malhotra.

A Royal Revival in Zari and Emeralds

Her ensemble featured a bespoke off-shoulder corset blouse — detailed with real zari antique embroidery — paired with a handwoven saree finished with a metallic sequin border and cut-work pallu. The look struck a balance between vintage opulence and contemporary finesse, a hallmark of both Nita Ambani’s and Manish Malhotra’s design sensibilities.

The Emerald Sautoir That Stole the Spotlight

What truly elevated the look was her emerald and diamond sautoir — a long, dramatic necklace traditionally ending in a pendant or tassel. The piece immediately drew comparisons to one of India’s most storied jewels — the legendary emerald sautoir of the Maharani of Indore, crafted by the French maison Chaumet in the 1930s.

That original creation, an Art Deco masterpiece, was famed for its massive pear-shaped diamonds and an imposing Colombian emerald centerpiece — a symbol of royal glamour and European craftsmanship entwined with Indian grandeur.

Nearly a century later, Nita Ambani reimagined this historic jewel as a tribute to India’s regal heritage. She personally oversaw the recreation, commissioning Kantilal Chhotalal Jewellers to bring her vision to life. The result is breathtaking: a necklace featuring two 40-carat pear-shaped diamonds, a 40-carat round diamond of Nizami provenance, and a 70-carat Colombian emerald at its heart.

    A Homage to Indian Royalty

The recreated sautoir not only channels the spirit of the Maharani of Indore but also redefines how modern India interprets its royal past — with reverence, innovation, and authenticity.

At the Pink Ball, Nita Ambani didn’t just wear couture — she wore history, reborn in the language of modern elegance. And as always, she did so with the quiet confidence of a woman who knows her place in the narrative of Indian luxury.
