In a remarkable testament to his dedication to education and public service, Dr. Ankush Sawant, a resident of Sangli District, has been appointed as a National Mentor under the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM), NCTE, as part of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020). His selection, announced on 31 May 2022, places him among the country’s most respected academic guides.
A Journey from PGT Maths Teacher to Assistant Commissioner and National Mentor
Dr. Sawant began his career as a PGT Maths Teacher in Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. From the start, he showed a strong passion for elevating educational standards and developing innovative teaching practices. His efforts quickly earned him recognition at District, Regional and National levels, establishing him as an influential figure in grassroots education.
After completing his postgraduate studies at Shivaji University Kolhapur, he expanded his services as PGT Maths 11 years, Vice Principal 2 years, Principal 19 years and Assistant Commissioner 3 years in Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti ,he has contributed to teacher training, curriculum development, and student mentoring.
Mentoring Students and Teachers Nationwide
As a National Mentor, Dr. Sawant now guides Students and teachers across India under NEP-2020, focusing on 21st Century Skills, Professionalism and Ethics. His Sneh Career Counselling Centre Jath Sangli gives Career guidance through Psychometric Test to Students, Professionals to select their right Career Path, helping them build confidence for future competitive examinations.
His mentoring work has gained nationwide appreciation, further strengthening his reputation as a transformative educator.

Dr. Sawant’s illustrious career includes numerous prestigious awards, such as:
1. Guru Param Award for Marathi from NVS in 2004.
2. Guru Ratna Award for Mathematics from NVS in 2006.
3. National Integration Fellowship 2010 from Bhartiya Samaj Academy Mumbai.
4. Best Citizen of India Award 2011 from International Publishing House, New Delhi
5. Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) 2018 recommended by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Research and Development Centre Bangalore from University of South America.
6. Bharat Shiksha Ratna Award 2018 from Global Society for Health and Educational Growth, New Delhi.
7. Best Educationist Award – 2018, from International Institute of Education & Management, Delhi.
8. Completed Career Guidance and Counseling -2020 at RIE Bhopal
In October 2024, Edumile Stones Magazine, Bengaluru, named him Career Icon of the Month, highlighting his contribution to student guidance and teacher development.
A Mentor Shaping India’s Future
Over the years, Dr. Sawant has worked extensively in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir participating in national educational committees and shaping policy implementation frameworks.
