On her debut visit to India, Grammy-winning singer Tyla turned heads not only with her music, but also with her bold fashion statement. For the occasion, she donned a striking saree-inspired outfit designed by self-taught fashion designer Nancy Tyagi — a look that fused Indian heritage with modern glamour.

    The Look

The outfit featured a mint-green, sheer, pre-draped drape reminiscent of a saree, combined with a body-hugging skirt, pleats at the front, a floor-length train and a daring thigh-high slit. Tyla paired this with a fitted bralette-style blouse with a plunging neckline and spaghetti straps — a contemporary twist on traditional Indian attire.

Completing the look were layered jewellery pieces, embellished pumps, shimmering nails, and a gemstone-studded bindi — giving the outfit a glamorously desi edge. Her braided hairstyle and dewy makeup finished the ensemble, striking a balance between couture and cultural pride.

     Cultural Fusion On Stage

Tyla’s India debut came at the Indian Sneaker Festival 2025 in Mumbai, where she delivered a high-energy 60-minute set that resonated with fans. Along with her music, her sartorial moment — the saree-inspired ensemble — made a powerful statement of cultural fusion. As she captioned her social media post: “twin stayed up all night designing and hand-making this Saree inspired look 4 me…”

Nancy Tyagi described the creation as a union of two distinct visual languages — Indian craftsmanship and Tyla’s bold modern style. “It felt like a quiet intersection of cultures, coming alive through couture and intention,” she said.

    Fashion, Identity & Global Spotlight

This collaboration — between an Indian designer and a globally popular artist of South African origin — highlights an evolving trend in fashion: blending tradition with contemporary global style. Tyla’s outfit resonated widely on social media, sparking conversations about cultural appreciation and modern aesthetics.

By choosing a handmade, India-inspired outfit over mainstream global designers, Tyla also spotlighted rising talents like Nancy Tyagi, hinting at a shift in how global stars choose to present themselves on international visits.
