  • Delhi Exhibition Reimagines Indian Art Archives

A unique art exhibition opening later this month in the capital is putting the spotlight not just on artworks themselves, but on how those works are preserved, documented and retold for future generations.

Titled Moving Archives, the project reframes the idea of an archive from static storage to an active space where creative processes and artistic histories evolve. Rather than presenting only finished pieces, the exhibition encourages visitors to consider the sketches, notes, manuscripts and oral traditions that lie behind completed works — elements that are often overlooked yet shape how art is understood and remembered.

Organised under the guidance of curators Ranjita Chaney and Ruchika Soi and supported by the art‑focused organisation Ginti AND, Moving Archives explores documentation from multiple angles — from traditional recordings to digital archives and craft practices. The showcase underscores that things like unfinished ideas or contextual commentary can be just as revealing as the final artwork itself.

A key focus of the exhibition is expanding the conversation around who gets to record art and whose stories are preserved in public memory. Visitors are invited to reflect on the question of ownership — not just of physical art, but of the narratives that accompany it.

The exhibition will be held at CCA Galleries in Bikaner House, New Delhi, from February 20 to 23, and is open daily between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
