Mumbai: Vikrant Massey and debutante Shanaya Kapoor are set to bring a heartwarming romantic tale to theatres tomorrow with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, directed by Santosh Singh. Inspired by Ruskin Bond’s acclaimed short story “The Eyes Have It,” the film releases in Indian cinemas on July 11, 2025.
Runtime, Screen Count, and Advance Bookings
Certified U/A, the film has a runtime of 2 hours 20 minutes. It is slated to release on 800 to 1000 screens across India, targeting a niche audience fond of soft romantic dramas.
However, the advance bookings have been on the lower side. By Thursday 3 PM, less than 1,000 tickets were sold across major national chains PVRInox and Cinepolis. Industry estimates predict final pre-sales to touch around 2,000 tickets before release day.
Expected Opening and Competition at the Box Office
Jointly backed by Zee Studios, Mini Films, and Open Window Films, the movie is predicted to have a modest opening. Trade experts estimate its first-day collection in the range of ₹75 lakh to ₹1 crore.
The film’s box office performance will heavily rely on positive word-of-mouth and weekend walk-in audiences, especially since the opening advance sales are minimal.
Adding to the challenge, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan faces stiff competition from Rajkummar Rao’s gangster drama Maalik, which also releases on the same day. Moreover, Hollywood giant Superman debuts this weekend, likely capturing a significant chunk of multiplex audiences.
Ongoing releases like Metro In Dino and Jurassic World: Rebirth will also divide viewer attention.
About the Film
In Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, Vikrant Massey portrays Jahaan, a visually impaired musician who finds love in Saba, a spirited theatre artist played by Shanaya Kapoor. Actor Zain Khan Durrani also plays a pivotal role in the narrative.
Vikrant Massey, known for his powerful performances in A Death in the Gunj, Chhapaak, Haseen Dillruba, and 12th Fail, brings depth to his new role. Shanaya Kapoor marks her Bollywood debut with this romantic drama.
Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan enters the box office amidst fierce competition and low initial buzz. Its fate will largely be determined by critical reviews and word-of-mouth momentum over the opening weekend.
