New Delhi, ICW 2025 — Veteran couturier Tarun Tahiliani celebrated 30 years of his iconic label in grand style at the Hyundai India Couture Week 2025, unveiling a collection aptly titled ‘Éxquisite’. The showcase marked not only a milestone in his journey but also his enduring commitment to the idea of ‘India Modern’ — where tradition meets contemporary expression.

Gen Z and Couture: A Bold Love Affair

In an exclusive chat with India Today, Tahiliani revealed his admiration for Gen Z, who are now enthusiastically embracing his couture for weddings. “They don’t give a s**t! They just want to wear what they want to. They are cool,” he said with a laugh. While Gen Z’s confidence excites him, it hasn’t altered his design philosophy — instead, it reinforces it.

    The Collection: Fluidity Meets Structure

‘Éxquisite’ was a dazzling play of drapes, sensuality, and structure. Models glided down the runway in sculpted yet fluid silhouettes — jumpsuits, corsets, jackets, sheer modern sarees, and sultry blouses. Despite the visual grandeur, Tahiliani ensured the garments remained lightweight and wearable. “What does beautiful mean if one cannot move in it, dance in it?” the designer mused.

As Alisha Chinai’s iconic “Made in India” played, the mood was celebratory, with models grooving effortlessly — a reminder that couture can be joyous, dynamic, and liberating.

    Heritage Meets Modern Glamour

True to his legacy, Tahiliani wove in traditional Indian craft techniquesBandhej, Chikankari, Kashidakari, resham embroidery, and crystal embellishments — reinterpreted with a touch of modern sensuality. Each piece balanced heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design, making it relevant for the new-age bride and beyond.

A Full-Circle Moment at The Oberoi

Fittingly, the venue for this milestone showcase was The Oberoi, New Delhi — the same place where Tarun Tahiliani’s journey began with his first assignment designing uniforms. The evening also celebrated 60 years of The Oberoi, creating a poetic symmetry of legacies.

    The Verdict

With ‘Éxquisite’, Tarun Tahiliani once again proved why he is hailed as the master of drapes and modern Indian couture. As his label steps into its next chapter, one thing is clear — his designs will continue to celebrate movement, sensuality, and the fearless spirit of a new generation.
