At the 18th Hyundai India Couture Week 2025, designer Amit Aggarwal proved once again that couture is not just clothing, but a language of ideas. His latest collection, titled Arcanum, explored the invisible codes of biology, transforming DNA’s double helix into a living metaphor on the runway.
Couture Decoded into Biology
Aggarwal, known for his futuristic and boundary-pushing approach to fashion, stripped couture down to its elemental essence: the human form itself. Instead of the drama of a celebrity showstopper, Arcanum let the garments take center stage. Every pleat, spiral, and metallic fold was a translation of life’s architecture into couture.
DNA as Blueprint
If Aggarwal’s previous collection Antevorta studied the fluidity of time, Arcanum is its genetic counterpart. The iconic double helix of DNA became the structural inspiration for the collection, reflected in gowns that twisted like strands of code and sharply tailored suits layered with organic spirals.
Craft Meets Innovation
The designer combined metallic polymers with traditional ikat textiles, creating a hybrid of heritage and futurism. The silhouettes felt almost bioengineered — like couture exoskeletons sculpted to move with elegance.
The Palette of Life
Colors amplified the biological narrative. Deep jewel tones anchored the collection in richness, while electric reds, luminous blues, and liquid metallics gave it a transcendent, futuristic edge. Charcoal, silver, and light-reactive surfaces added a sense of motion — as though the clothes themselves were alive.
A New Dimension of Couture
With Arcanum, Amit Aggarwal transcended fashion spectacle, creating a fusion of science, art, and luxury. The audience was not just watching a fashion show; they were witnessing a reinterpretation of biology into couture — a poetic, futuristic vision of what Indian fashion can become.
