Paris has long been the beating heart of fashion. Yet in recent seasons, criticism loomed: some shows felt safe, familiar, overly polished. However, on the second day of the women’s ready-to-wear Spring-Summer 2026 shows, two young labels broke through the haze. Matières Fécales and Zomer brought such raw energy and fresh vision that the week’s creative pulse seemed renewed.
Matières Fécales: Gothic Couture on the Edge
For a first appearance on the Paris official calendar, Matières Fécales left no whisper behind. From the outset, the show felt like a ritual. Models strode in vertiginous platform stilettos with curved needle heels. Their makeup evoked porcelain dolls, eyes distant, sometimes veiled by half-masks.
Designers Hannah Rose Dalton (29) and Steven Raj Bhaskaran (31) jointly helm the label. Their backgrounds are as layered as their collection: Dalton hails from Canada, while Bhaskaran has Guyanese and Sri Lankan heritage. Therefore trajectory included stints as DJs in New York, before gravitating toward avant-garde fashion in Paris.
Often vision fuses couture discipline with subversive motifs. On one end, there were sharply tailored jackets, off-shoulder tweed suits with frayed edges, sculptural silhouettes, and corsetry. On the other, there were ripped jeans, slogan tees (e.g. “Never conform”), distressed black leather, and hints of BDSM references.
