Craft Meets Couture: ‘The Kunj’ Hosts Lakmē Fashion Week’s Opening Show, While NEXA’s ‘The Spotlight’ Marks a Decade of Design Innovation
By IndiaFashionIcon.com
The synergy between craft and contemporary fashion takes centre stage this season as Delhi’s newest design and retail destination, The Kunj, prepares to host the opening show of Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI 2025. Conceived by the Union Ministry of Textiles and envisioned by design maestro Rajeev Sethi, The Kunj stands as a cutting-edge platform that brings together India’s diverse handlooms, handicrafts, and heritage artistry under one architecturally stunning roof.
Barely a month since its launch, The Kunj has already captured Delhi’s cultural imagination — a destination where design meets purpose. Now, as it transforms into a runway for LFW’s first show, it’s poised to become a beacon of craft innovation on a global scale.
🌸 The Kunj: Where Craft Becomes Couture
The much-anticipated Craft x Fashion showcase will feature Gaurav Jai Gupta’s label Akaaro unveiling an all-pink engineered textile collection titled ‘Starlight’. Known for his technical mastery and textile innovation, Gupta’s work is expected to resonate beautifully within the venue’s raw architectural aesthetic.
Alongside him, Anavila Misra will present an edit of her acclaimed collection ‘Sarmast’, reinterpreting her signature handloom linen aesthetic through a poetic, festive lens. Completing the lineup is ‘The Edit’, a curated presentation spotlighting craft designs sourced directly from The Kunj’s resident retail stores, highlighting the diversity and ingenuity of Indian artisanship.
Together, the collections will create a dialogue between textile, space, and story — a fitting tribute to India’s evolving craft narrative.
✨ NEXA ‘The Spotlight’ Marks 10 Years of Conceptual Design
Meanwhile, this season also marks a milestone for one of Lakmē Fashion Week’s most forward-thinking initiatives — NEXA’s ‘The Spotlight’, which celebrates its 10th edition with a special Design Retrospective.
Launched in 2021, The Spotlight redefined fashion presentations by replacing traditional runway shows with conceptual, multimedia-driven performances. To commemorate a decade of creative evolution, this year’s lineup brings back three visionary labels — Naushad Ali, SWGT by Shweta Gupta, and TIL by Ankur Verma — each known for their craft-led innovation and distinct storytelling style.
The retrospective promises to celebrate not just their growth, but also the platform’s legacy as a launchpad for experimental, narrative-driven fashion in India.
🪡 Craft, Context, and Contemporary Design
From The Kunj’s craft-forward showcase to The Spotlight’s conceptual revival, Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI 2025 seems set to champion the full spectrum of Indian fashion — one that honours tradition while embracing the future.
Whether it’s engineered textiles, upcycled elegance, or heritage reinterpretation, this season reaffirms India’s position as a global hub for craftsmanship, creativity, and conscious design.
