Anam Husain’s ‘CUT-PUTLY’ Marks a Bold, Thoughtful Runway Debut at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI
By IndiaFashionIcon.com
Firsts are always special. For Delhi-based designer Anam Husain, her first runway moment at the Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI Autumn-Winter 2025 edition was more than a milestone—it was a statement. Showcasing ‘CUT-PUTLY’, the debut collection from her namesake label, Husain raised a toast to mindful design, creative courage, and the power of storytelling through clothes.
As one of the three winners of the GenNext talent incubation programme presented by NIF Global, Husain joined fellow emerging designers Mohammed Anas Sheikh and Pranita Choudhury in redefining the new wave of Indian fashion. Her showcase stood out for its soulful blend of craft, sustainability, and concept-driven aesthetics.
♻️ Denim Reborn: Craft Meets Consciousness
At the heart of ‘CUT-PUTLY’ lies a commitment to sustainability. More than a thousand pieces of discarded denim were reimagined into an eclectic mix of supersized bombers, balloon-shaped pants, panelled dresses, and sculptural skirts. Each piece bore a distinct patina — layered, raw, and tactile — creating a textured visual language that was both cool and conscious.
The result was a modern urban wardrobe with a twist — wearable, yet artfully constructed. “I wanted the collection to reflect the beauty of imperfection and the potential of reinvention,” Husain shared.
🎭 Strings of Strength: A Feminist Narrative in Motion
The collection drew deep inspiration from kathputlis — traditional Rajasthani puppets, particularly those from Jaisalmer. Through this cultural metaphor, Husain explored themes of control, identity, and female empowerment.
She wove a personal narrative into the collection, reflecting on her own encounters with patriarchal norms and comparing them to the female puppets controlled by male puppeteers. The voluminous, sculptural silhouettes became symbols of rebellion and resilience.
“Some shapes were artistic and big because I want women to feel powerful,” Husain explained in a pre-show conversation. “These dolls are made of clay or wood — their nature influenced the silhouettes. The spherical forms represent clay’s fluidity, while the boxier shapes echo wood’s strength.”
🌟 A Powerful Debut with Purpose
With ‘CUT-PUTLY’, Anam Husain didn’t just make a runway debut — she made a declaration of artistic identity. The showcase combined craftsmanship with conscience, femininity with force, and tradition with transformation.
In a season celebrating innovation and introspection, Husain’s collection stood as a reminder that fashion can be both beautiful and brave.
