A vibrant textile showcase titled “Woven Whispers” was held at the National Crafts Museum to celebrate International Saree Day, bringing together India’s rich handloom heritage, contemporary design, and creative dialogue.
Organised as a tripartner initiative by the Ministry of Textiles, FICCI FLO, and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), with support from the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), the event highlighted the cultural importance of the saree and its enduring relevance in modern fashion.
The program featured a textile presentation that blended tradition with innovation, alongside panel discussions that explored the journey of Indian handloom weaving “from craft to commerce.” Designers and artisans showcased regional textiles and fresh interpretations of the saree in contemporary fashion.
Attendees included fashion designers, industry leaders, and craft advocates who underscored the saree’s legacy as both cultural heritage and a dynamic element of modern style. The showcase also fostered discussions around sustainability, market access for handloom communities, and the role of women in preserving weaving traditions.
