In an era where many young professionals chase urban careers, Engineer Prasad Shivaji Soudagar has carved a remarkable path by returning to his roots and building a successful construction enterprise from the ground up. Hailing from Umdi (Vitthalwadi) village in Jat taluka of Sangli district, Prasad’s journey stands as a testament to perseverance, ethical business practices, and unwavering self-belief.
Strong Educational Foundation
Prasad Shivaji Soudagar completed his primary education up to Class 4 at the Zilla Parishad Marathi Primary School, Vitthalwadi, followed by secondary and higher secondary education in Umdi itself. In 2020, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from SVERI College of Engineering, Pandharpur, laying a strong technical foundation for his future.
Early Career and the Turning Point
In the last week of October 2020, while visiting Pune for a competitive examination, Prasad received a job offer from a private construction firm. Though the initial salary package was modest, he accepted the role with a clear mindset—experience mattered more than money.
During his employment, he gained invaluable on-site exposure, including drawing interpretation, material procurement, labour management, project scheduling, and client communication. Even during the second COVID-19 lockdown, he continued visiting construction sites, strengthening his practical knowledge. It was during this phase that he made a decisive choice—to one day establish his own construction business.
Choosing Entrepreneurship Over Comfort
In 2022, Prasad resigned from his job and returned to his village, despite receiving a counter-offer with a higher salary. Supported wholeheartedly by his parents, relatives, and friends, he followed his entrepreneurial calling.
On 2nd April 2022, he officially launched “Soudagar Construction & Developers” in Umdi. However, the first year tested his resolve. For nearly eight months, he did not receive a single project. Financial strain, office rent challenges, and social skepticism became daily realities. Many doubted his decision to leave a stable job and start a business at such a young age.
Yet, unwavering support from his parents kept him going.
Breakthrough and Rapid Growth
The breakthrough came on 1st January 2023, when a family member entrusted him with his first 2BHK twin bungalow ‘lock-and-key’ project, including materials. Prasad completed the project within six months, delivering high-quality construction with strict adherence to timelines.
His professionalism, transparency, and work quality soon earned widespread trust, leading to eight additional lock-and-key projects in the same locality.
That same year, at the age of 25, Prasad achieved several milestones—purchasing a four-wheeler, building his own 2,600 sq. ft. home, and investing in advanced construction machinery.
A Brand Built on Trust and Quality
Today, Soudagar Construction & Developers is known for its core values—quality, transparency, integrity, and disciplined execution. Proper agreements, superior materials, and honest communication have become the company’s hallmark.
Over the last three years, the firm has successfully completed 31 projects, achieving an impressive turnover of approximately ₹6 crore. Despite facing financial losses along the way, Prasad remained resilient.
His work has now expanded across Sangli, Pune, and Solapur districts, with enquiries coming in from across Maharashtra. The company has also created employment opportunities for more than 50 people.
Mentoring the Next Generation
Beyond business success, Prasad actively mentors young and aspiring civil engineers through social media, offering guidance on entrepreneurship and practical construction knowledge—an effort he considers deeply fulfilling.
Recognition and Inspiration
Recently, his dedication and achievements were recognized by Reseal.in, which announced the “Maharashtra Udyog Ratna 2026” award in his honour. For Prasad, the greatest reward remains the pride of his parents and village, who now see his journey as a source of inspiration.
