What began as a modest endeavor with just a single cow has today transformed into a thriving and exemplary dairy business. Suresh Prakash Koli, the visionary behind Chhayaprakash Dairy Farm, is now recognized not only in Rajuri village but across the entire region as a successful, inspiring, and innovative dairy entrepreneur.
Humble Beginnings and Hard Work 
Suresh Koli’s journey was never easy. Starting with limited resources, minimal income, and numerous uncertainties about the future, he faced both financial and social challenges. Yet, he remained determined. Rejecting traditional, unplanned methods, he adopted a scientific and systematic approach to dairy farming, placing discipline, consistency, and planning at the core of his business.
Gradually, through careful breed selection, balanced nutrition, timely vaccinations, hygienic milking practices, and meticulous fodder management, he expanded his herd. Even when 13 cows succumbed to natural causes—a setback that might have discouraged many—Suresh learned from these losses and strengthened his approach, turning challenges into opportunities for growth.
Growth and Sustainable Practices
Today, Chhayaprakash Dairy Farm boasts 104 cows, spread across 4 acres of owned land, with an additional 28 acres leased for large-scale fodder cultivation. By growing Napier grass, maize, and other fodder crops, the farm minimizes external expenses while ensuring high-quality feed. The farm operates as an integrated system combining animal husbandry, milk production, and fodder management, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.
The Koli family is deeply involved in the business. From milking and cleaning the sheds to managing fodder and daily care, every member contributes. This not only reduces reliance on external labor but also fosters discipline, accountability, and unity within the family.
Overcoming Challenges with Foresight
Transporting milk during the monsoon often presents logistical challenges, yet the family consistently delivers around 700 liters of milk daily to the market. Beyond milk, the farm also produces organic compost from cow dung, which is sold to local farmers, generating additional income while promoting environmentally friendly farming practices.
Support from the Bank of Maharashtra has been instrumental, enabling Suresh to expand his dairy operations and set up modern infrastructure. Planning for the future, he has already built a shed capable of housing 200 cows and a warehouse to store a year’s supply of fodder, ensuring the farm remains resilient to market fluctuations and adverse weather.
