Ka-Sha’s Sunhera Collection Redefines Sustainable Festive Dressing with a Golden Glow

Designer Karishma Shahani Khan, founder of the sustainable label Ka-Sha, continues to push the boundaries of mindful fashion with her latest collection, Sunhera — a shimmering ode to Indian festivities. Based in Maharashtra, Ka-Sha has long been known for its commitment to natural, hand-dyed fabrics, zero-waste techniques, and a deep respect for artisanal heritage. Sunhera takes these values into a new light — literally — by weaving metallic tones of gold, silver, and bronze into its signature black-and-white appliqué aesthetic.

This collection is specifically designed to celebrate the festive season in India that began with Ganesh Chaturthi,” shares Karishma. “Hence the prominent use of metallic accents.

    Tradition Meets Modern Sustainability

Sunhera, meaning “gold,” strikes a perfect balance between heritage and innovation. Staying true to Ka-Sha’s core monochrome identity, the collection introduces metallic embroidery and appliqué to create a visual narrative that is both grounded and opulent.

At Ka-Sha, we consistently focus on evolving our surface techniques. The black-and-white base gives us the contrast needed to highlight our detailed symmetric and organic designs,” says Karishma.

Each piece in Sunhera reflects meticulous craftsmanship — from tailor-stitch appliqué and zari-thread embroidery to handwoven metallic fabrics. The result is a tactile interplay of light and texture that embodies modern Indian celebration.

Crafted for Comfort and Conscious Celebration

The collection uses cotton and chanderi fabrics in various textures, offering a breathable yet festive appeal. “We wanted the garments to move with ease — to be beautiful yet comfortable enough for all-day wear,” Karishma notes.

The silhouettes range from jackets and skirts to dresses and versatile separates, designed with playfulness and longevity in mind. Standout pieces include the Sunhera Jacket, Tara Sunhera Skirt, Sher Panbo Jacket, and the Zaveri Varsha Jacket — each celebrating artistry through detail and form.

Fashion can be festive without compromising sustainability, and celebratory without losing its soul,” Karishma concludes.
