The Portuguese fashion label Anahí India — celebrated for repurposing traditional Indian saris into modern clothing — has officially inaugurated its first physical retail store in Lisbon’s creative district, 8Marvila. The small but thoughtfully curated space, roughly 25 square metres in size, reflects the brand’s journey from festival-market stalls to a fixed home for its sustainable, cross-cultural fashion.
Founded by friends and business partners Ana Abreu and Rita Galamba, Anahí India draws inspiration from their connections to India — a nod to the country’s influence on Portugal since maritime routes opened in the 15th century. The clothing line, which began nearly a decade ago at music festivals featuring men’s shirts imported from India, now features a full range of unisex jackets, dresses, and kimonos, along with sarongs, ethnic-style jewellery, and other accessories.
While the store interior opts for a clean, industrial aesthetic, it stands in striking contrast to the vibrant patterns and rich textures of the recycled fabrics used throughout Anahí’s collections. This contrast underlines the brand’s mission: to fuse modern design sensibilities with traditional Indian textile heritage.
The Lisbon store — opened at the end of November 2025 — marks a milestone for the brand. Anahí India plans to continue expanding its online presence alongside the physical store. For the moment, the brand is also showcasing its work at the Time Out Lisboa Christmas fair (running through December 12), inviting customers to explore exclusive pieces and discover sustainable gifts.
At its core, Anahí India is more than a fashion label — it is a celebration of craftsmanship, sustainability, and cross-cultural heritage. By giving new life to recycled Indian saris through thoughtful design and ethical production in both India and Portugal, it offers fashion that respects tradition while embracing modernity.
